Women of the Pore & Arrington – Hot Town – Rip up the Streets…

Who or what is Women of the Pore?

Short answer…We don’t know.

An unadorned and unaddressed, brown paper bag was slipped under our door.

It was apparent this wasn’t the usual take-out menu or political brochure, that often make its way to our doormat. The parcel was tied with a rough jute twine, and housed a cassette, whose only identifying mark was,”Women of the Pore” written along the side in a elegant script, practiced yet natural, a style not often seen today.

Who or what brought about this cassette? That my friend, we intended to find out! Our initial efforts turned up nil; libraries empty of information, people on the streets, silent! All we could find was an online chat group who were devoted to sussing out this very conspiracy – or conspiracies, rather. From the onset our inquiry was troubled and the origins of the tape was further muddled, by the feverish second hand accounts about the shadowy faction.

Some people say the adherents of Women of the Pore are part of a fanatical doomsday coven who moved their church subterranean during the cold war to avoid nuclear fallout; others say that it is a radical leftist militant organization who retreated underground, hiding from law enforcement. A few pointed to a theory that, Women of the Pore was begun as a top secret military program, to lab-grow Homo sapiens. The theories as to the purposes on this one were an endless point of debate among the online sleuths, as you can imagine.

We were also told the recordings may be Michael Leslie Winslow practicing a new routine imitating motoric rhythms and demon howls hoping to unlock true abandonment, while awaiting a Police Academy reboot. We couldn’t corroborate any of the reports.

Buy Hot Town – Rip Up the Streets…

Left without much to go on, we just focused on the music itself. What does, “Hot Town – Rip up the Streets” sound like? Well, if you can imagine getting left behind and locked into to a fairground after closing, you might have an idea. The carnies have long turned in for the evening; its the time when the rides, games, and prizes get to let their metaphorical hair down. Moments when mirrors silk-screened with pop culture references, can rub elbows with magenta feathered roach clips, and under-stuffed plush creatures.

A Gravitron spinning creates a whirring ambience as deep bass pulses from a pendulum ride. Faint psychedelic flourishes chirp from a rigged game, twisting metal from a ferris wheel, sounds that lurch forward held together by generator-motor rhythm section. None of this sounds as mechanical as this description may imply, oh no! These free flowing sounds are seedy and dangerous, just like a fair should be, the tension adding to the thrill.

So as you can see we still don’t know much about Women of the Pore, but we do know if you’ve got the guts, this is a funky album, and a canon in the Bunker Jazz catalogue.

Dig it?

VA – Content Aware

JOLLIES WORLD FAMOUS

UNDERGROUND RECORD LABEL

IS AT IT AGAIN.

March 18th marks the NYC based imprints 10th release, “Content Aware”. A 10 track various artist compilation,

available on limited edition cassette and digital formats. The release will presumably be followed by a wave of global hysteria, a tectonic shift, and a brief period of peace on earth, before… well this is just a press release we can only see into the future so far.

In this self conscious age where delicately curated environments of aesthetic perfection set the stage for personal brands, “unique” and slick vignettes. Buildings exteriors, tattooed with logos, windows littered with product advertisements. Some motorist’s entire voting history are mapped out along bumpers like a journal. Without recalling your own lunch you know what some of your friends or family eat and drink each meal of the day. Even Chalkboards in front of cafes, double as art galleries, riddle contests, and stand-up acts.

Deepfake technology affords us access to manipulated celebrity and politician likeness, basking in the uncanny valley of our own making. Artificial intelligence serves up targeted ads, bespoke to our tastes and interest, mined from data we distribute like Hansel & Gretel’s breadcrumbs. Every surface considered and designed, all lines straight, all messages on target. Cybernetic feedback loops echoing into the chasm. In this embrace of being the product ourselves, we have reached Content Awareness.

This compilation celebrates diverse perspectives, from an international roster of artists who subvert the very medium itself.

African Ghost Valley – Iberville

WE WARMLY WELCOME

AFRICAN GHOST VALLEY, BACK

FOR A NEW EP, “IBERVILLE“.

”Iberville” is inspired by folk-tales of an age-old pipe smoking wanderer.

The traveler, a women covered in tattered cloth adorned with earthen trinkets, feathered headpiece, a sword, and torch. She treks through dense forest with mountain vistas. Only seldom being seen by the few that find themselves deep in the brush.

African Ghost Valley are experts at generating larger than life atmospheres. They bring a warmth, to dark narratives, that continues reverberating long after the compositions end. Each track is filled with drive, mystery, and chock full of surprises. What we love about these guys is they give gutsy audio performances by just jumping straight into the deep end. AGV have fined tuned their craft. A vision as haunting as it is exciting.

Our campaign begins along neglected paths, barely perceptible but for a few snapped branches, an occasional track, or residue from ash. Engulfed in natural beauty that shimmers with an unnatural orange glow of light; a heavy fog rolls over the landscape.

Spectral visions break in the vapors, traces of action bubble into view before hazy plumes cast visions of a clandestine gathering inside a cave. Dark robed figures form a circle around indecipherable symbols. Torch flames flicker, drums beat; shrieks, grunts, and chants with call for the ancient wonderer. Each cult member fully entranced, gives themselves away to divinations of the traveler’s sorcery.

Harsh beams of light burn through closed lids. Awaken to a smeared memory or perhaps feverish visions? Laying on hard ground with light dusting of snow. Piecing together memories, startled at the possibility “Iberville” may not be a town, village, or even a physical space, but a borderless expanse that exists within us all. A mind eye that existed in our ancestors as well as our progeny. One thing is certain, you leave “Iberville” different than when you arrived.

Abaunz – Ilunpean Arnas Hotsa Entzute

WE ARE PLEASED TO BRING YOU,

ABAUNZ WHITE HOT DEBUT ALBUM,

ILUNPEAN ARNAS HOTSA ENTZUTEN.

Abaunz resides in a rugged landscape surrounded by Basque mountains.

This formidable environment may have played some part in shaping the moods within this release, raw and beautiful, intricate yet reduced.

The title roughly translates into English as: “hearing the sound of breathing in the dark”, hinting an eerie listen ahead. There is black metal blood in each track, arranged on an alter of adept programming. Blistering guitar textures, and drum blast sit in a bed of gaseous swirls and cinematic dread. A heavy atmosphere gives way to skeletal melody, funky dembow rhythms, and hair raising, barded wire synth stabs.

This work is set in a perpetual dawn on the edge of town where shadow and light trick, the eye and mind alike. Vocals twist and turn throughout these tracks, guiding the listening deeper into the mysteries of the night, while also casting and unexpected soulfulness. These blackened electronics excursions, are a unique and confident vision. Keep your eyes on Abaunz.

African Ghost Valley – AAM

AFRICAN GHOST VALLEY

IS THE WORK OF TWO HEAVIES,

IN THE DARK ARTS OF

DEEP DRONING SOUNDSCAPES.

The sonics on AAM are so thick you are immediately engulfed into a fully formed world. An unmistakable scent of acrid sulphur, oppressive heat, and sandy air; a raw primitive planet.

Noises crackle and spark along the planetary surface, portend low-pitched thuds and cracks, as cavities appear to pock the terrain . A land in constant flux; a call and response of formation and destruction, physically flipping a subterranean world inside out.

This duo who have forged a distinct sound, by harnessing invisible forces, (magnetism, electricity, gravity, etc.). Wielding energy to create a throbbing pressure before releasing oscillations, felt on a cellular level. These hardware explorations, hone vibrations like sonar, mapping a spacious environment that you are free to explore.

MOS FET & Eustress – These Days

WE ARE PROUD TO BRING YOU,

THESE DAYS BY MOS FET & EUSTRESS

These Days is a supernatural 1-900 partyline portal.

An occult dimension, where feverish apparitions materialize before spiraling fog, wheezing winds, and flickering lights. Horns bellow, gasses squelch, and lightly brushed rusty strings reverberate, as blurred lights stagger past. You know; spooky.

Each poltergeist tells their story, mise-en-scène, building an ethereal, holographic world; a narrative vision. The impressions are like wordless dramas, with action and adventure. Another specter interrupts, with their own finely crafted mytho, as the optical

anecdotes of the previous speaker weightlessly fall away and fade into the nether. Each expression is a personal narrative, but breadcrumbs spread throughout each theme, connects the tales: There is a magic in the matrix.

And just like that, a sleight of hand trick, after all, what appeared as a ritual séance, is a mirror holding a reflection of These Days.

Andrew Haines – Hidden in the Night

WE ARE PROUD TO ANNOUNCE

ANDREW HAINES – HIDDEN IN THE NIGHT, LP.

Andrew hails from the United Kingdom, and has recorded under the alias Midnight Circuitry. We are bringing you this fantastic artist’s first release under his given name.

Drones by the fleet descend on an uninhabitable planet, casting rays of shadow over an opaque cloud of debris and plumes of dust, still settling from a planetary catastrophe begun thousands of years ago.

Structures dot the surface with soaring spikes, abrupt slopes, and deep ravines. As the vessels descend towards the expanse, they begin to detect relics of construction, and what once must have been a vast, varied, and rich assortment of architectural engineering. A collapsed framework that once housed and supported a population in the billions.

The drones dig, bore, and settle several thousands meters below the surface of refuse. Creating passage ways resembling an ant nest, a subterranean gallery. Within the catacombs the the machines discover an advanced civilization that once dominated this planet.

Robots sift through ruins and waste, excavating, a lost civilizations surviving artifacts, collecting data, while looking for clues as to who these advanced animals were, how they lived, what they produced, and ultimately, what wiped them out.

A low-pitched bellow is detected deep within the surface. A hollow bio-rhythm driven by the planet itself. Pulses, shocks, pops, and grunts, vibrate through the cave system, like flames through an accelerant. The drone carved cavities act as an amplifier, freeing the squelches toward the surface. The lost civilization was fueled by this rhythm, an auditory apparition from the core of the planet, and ultimately its eternal soul.

Reinartz – Interactions

JOLLIES RECORDS IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE

REINARTZ INTERACTIONS EP.

Reinartz’s music lies in a celestial space, of endless expanse; a distant object can scarcely be made out.

The form appears weightless in an endless darkness. An occasional ray of light breaks through the void, exposing a vessel, while laser-like technicolor radiation refracts through crystalline technology to reveal unknown but familiar fragments of time and space. Twitchy sound design and percussion bring into focus a terrestrial explorer not lost, but far from home.

Reinartz imbues his futuristic sound scape with a beauty and warmth all his own. Intergalactic compositions with a tropical soul, a sense of fun, humor, and exuberance run wild in these reduced cosmic tapestries. This future is not bleak, it is in fact a merry place to be.
